How long have you been in business?
Superior Care Auto Center was formed in 2002, when Superior Electric and Pro Care, two long established businesses (Superior Electric was founded in 1980 and Pro Care in 1984) decided to merge.
What is your primary product or service?
We do general automotive repairs, but we focus on preventative maintenance. We want to replace your filters, fluids, belts, etc., when they're due to be done, rather than neglect them and fix costly problems later on. However, we are completely experienced and fully qualified to fix any problems that your car is having as well.
We also specialize in diagnostic work and electrical issues. Many local repair shops send their most difficult cars that have electrical issues over to us to diagnose.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Growing up in the muscle car era, Frank has always had an interest in cars. He got into the business in the 1970s; with a desire to own his own garage so that he could have his own space to work, he opened Pro Care. From there he got into drag racing, which he still does in his spare time.
By age 13, Charlie was a regular at the repair shops and body shops that his uncles owned. He attended William E. Grady Career and Technical Education High School, studying automotive technology. While in high school, he opened his first shop with his brother and his uncle, specializing in body work. However, he had a knack for electrical work and diagnosing problems; he opened Superior Electric in 1980.
The company originally worked only for dealerships, diagnosing electrical problems that they could not solve. When Superior Electric moved from 16th Street (a block away from where Pro Care was located) to 3rd Avenue, Charlie decided to stop working for dealerships, essentially cutting out the middle man. This way he could deal directly with the public, providing them with honest service at a price that wasn't marked up by someone else.
Since Superior Electric and Pro Care had a symbiotic relationship (Frank would send electrical work over to Charlie, and Charlie would send automotive repairs over to Frank), rather than continuing to operate two separate businesses in an expensive industry, Frank and Charlie decided to merge, allowing their customers to reap the benefits of one company that could meet all of their car care needs.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Superior Care Auto Center provides quality service in the friendly atmosphere of a family business. Our mechanics have been working for us for years, with Frank's son, Jr., followed him into the business as one of them; Charlie's daughter, Megan, works in the office. And of course, Frank and Charlie have had a working relationship for over 20 years. Superior Care Auto Center is able to completely service your car and keep it running in tip-top-shape for years for years to come. How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one shop with no current plans to expand.

We're located at 120 19th Street, right on the corner of 3rd Avenue. TRAIN: The Prospect Avenue R-train station is located three blocks away, and the F/G-train station at 4th Avenue and 9th Street is located ten blocks away. BUS: Take the B63 to 5th Avenue and 18th Street and walk three blocks.

NYC. We're located in Brooklyn, and while most of our customers are from the surrounding neighborhoods (Park Slope, South Slope, Greenwood Heights, Bay Ridge, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Midwood, etc.) we have customers that come to us from Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, New Jersey, and some as far as Massachusetts, Illinois, and Virginia.

Monday to Friday from 7:30AM to 5:30PM
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Referring a friend. We know we're doing a good job when a new customer comes in, we've asked them how they heard about us, and they tell us that they were asking around for a good mechanic, and "everyone" tells them to come to Superior. If our customers weren't satisified, they wouldn't be referring us to their friends.
